Jan. 29 — A subject living in the 1300 block of 11th Street NE called 911 and reported that her boyfriend blew himself up and needed medical attention. Dispatch said there was a small fire in the home that had already been extinguished, but the responding officer asked the Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department to come and check. “Upon arrival I heard [the male subject] screaming in pain while he was holding his left arm under running water in the kitchen sink. [He] appeared to have second-degree burns on his arm and the hair on his head was singed. [He] also complained of pain in his left shoulder. [He] told me was in his room when he lit a cigarette and was blown out of the room. The door to the room was blown completely off of the hinges and the top of the door was embedded in the adjoining wall. [He] had a large butane spray can and multiple green propane containers present in the small 3-foot-by-4-foot room/enclosed porch he has been barricading himself into recently. A strong chemical odor was present in the room and a pile of smoldering towels and clothing was present outside of the room. Multiple large military-type knives appeared to be furtively placed about the room. [He] told me he has been doing some type of glass art in the room as a hobby to keep himself occupied. Their 3- and 12-year-old daughters were also present in the home at the time of the explosion. I did not observe anything inside the room that would lead me to believe he was making ‘glass art.’ Medix transported [him] to OBH while I was inside the house with fire personnel.”

Harley W. Bowe, 34, was booked on a warrant from Long Beach and a Pacific County Sheriff’s Office charge after he walked up to a parked patrol vehicle and turned himself in. He waived Miranda rights and advised the officer that he would be/was withdrawing from fentanyl. He was transported to OBH for medical clearance for jail.

Jan. 30 — Lisa A. Allison, 39 and homeless, was arrested in Ilwaco on a felony warrant and multiple misdemeanor warrants. The officer found suspected meth on her and it was given to a drug task force officer. Allison was transported to OBH where she was medically cleared and then to jail.

Feb. 1 — A resident called because someone put 160 feet of steel strapping into his shared side sewer and backed up the plumbing to his rental. It cost him $2,500 to get the issue resolved. The plumber told him that someone intentionally put that in there. He believes that his neighbor is the one who did this, but he doesn’t have any proof. The officer advised him to get a camera system, and he said he would.

Feb. 2 — Kurt E. Kaino, 61, of Ilwaco, called 911 on himself and said that he violated a court order and he was at the hospital. Kaino proposed or attempted various actions to be jailed and “became very agitated” when nothing was working. The officer offered him other solutions and offered to give him a ride somewhere, which he declined. “He asked why I wasn’t arresting him and I told him I would rather find another solution. He then told me ‘I’ll give you a solution,’ and pulled out a small pocket knife land attempted to puncture my rear driver side tire. I pushed Kaino away from vehicle. He immediately dropped the knife and fell to the ground. I took him into custody for Malicious Mischief 1st Degree, attempt. Kaino did not cause any damage to my vehicle. When I attempted to get him medically cleared for the jail, he denied all aid and did not want any hospital staff near him. I then transported and booked him into the Pacific County Jail.”
