Ilwaco senior Beckett Turner is honored as league most valuable player.

Beckett Turner’s high school basketball career ended in heartbreak when Ilwaco lost in the playoffs and failed to qualify to state.

But he has earned one more victory: he was named the most valuable player in the Pacific League 2B boys basketball all-league selections.

Senior teammate Kyle Morris was named to the all-league first team while Sam Needham was named to the second team. Boston Caron, another member of the Fishermen’s powerful senior class, earned an honorable mention.

Turner was also named to the league’s all-academic squad with classmate David Roberts.

For Raymond, the all-league selections included junior Christopher Quintana to the first team, senior Austin Snodgrass to the second team and classmate Talan Yearout with an honorable mention.

Quintana, Snodgrass and Yearout all earned academic recognition with three teammates, juniors Isaac Schlueter and Nolen Miller and sophomore Juan Sanchez-Martinez.

Two players from South Bend High School earned academic applause: sophomore Kingston Maneman and freshman Angel Morales.

Scott Halasz of Chief Leschi was named coach of the year. The team sportsmanship award was shared by South Bend and North Beach.
