Assessor says private company’s offer isn’t needed

SOUTH BEND — Several people have contacted the Pacific County Assessor’s office recently regarding letters they have received from an Olympia-based company named “Local Records Office” saying, for example, that it can provide “the only document that identifies John Doe as the property owner of 12345 A St.” They will charge you an $89 service fee for a copy of the recorded deed to the property.

Anyone can get a copy of their deed from the Pacific County Auditors’ office for only $3 for a certified copy. All other information regarding any property in Pacific County can be found on the Assessor’s, Auditor’s or Treasurer’s pages at www.co.pacific.wa.us.

The notices seem very official and some people have even wondered if they have been sent by Pacific County or another local government office. This is not the case.

If you have any questions about this notice or any other property tax issues, or see a correction needed on our Taxsifter or Mapsifter websites, contact the office of County Assessor Bruce Walker at 875-9301, 642-9301, 484-7301 or 267-8301.
