The SmileMobile is operated by the Arcora Foundation, a nonprofit group, and is funded by Delta Dental of Washington, a dental benefits company.
Karri Amundson, senior program officer with the Arcora Foundation, said poor oral health can affect chronic conditions like diabetes and heart health. “Painful cavities and visible oral disease also can impact school attendance, nutrition, employment opportunities, self-esteem and how others perceive you.”
The dentists may provide one or more of the following: examination, fluoride varnish, sealants, X-rays, simple extraction, temporary filling, and written referral. “Everyone deserves good oral and overall health.”
The SmileMobile travels the state year-round providing services ranging from exams and preventive care to fillings and minor oral surgery, and has examined and treated more than 50,000 patients in communities throughout Washington.
