Rare animal sighted on Long Beach Peninsula?

- A Long Beach Peninsula woman said she recently saw a fisher like the one pictured here chasing a feral rabbit in her yard. Related to mink and otters, fishers are about the size of a house cat. They were eliminated from Washington state by trapping and habitat loss in the mid-1900s. Some fishers were reintroduced in 2008 in Olympic National Park to our north. It will be significant wildlife news if a sighting can be confirmed this far south. If you believe you've seen a fisher, please contact editor@chinookobserver.com or call 800-643-3704 or 642-8181.
