Hunter education class offered by LBPD

LONG BEACH — The Long Beach Police Department will be holding its annual Hunter Education course from Aug. 7 through Aug. 12.

The class is free but you must register online in order to attend. To register and for class details go the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website (wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/huntered/classes/basic.php) and go to “hunter education,” then to “basic hunting,” and to “register now” for the traditional class in Long Beach.

The modern firearm hunting seasons this year are scheduled for:

Black-tailed deer: Oct. 14 to 31; late season Nov. 16 to 19

Elk: Nov. 4 to 15

Black bear: Aug. 1 to Nov. 15 on the coast; Sept. 1 to Nov. 15 Long Island

Cougar: Sept. 1 to Dec. 31

Pheasant: Sept. 30 to Nov. 30, with special early dates for youths, seniors

Duck: Oct. 21 to Jan. 28, with some earlier dates

Geese: Most seasons start Oct. 21, continue through January
