The Pe Ell/Willapa Valley baseball team knocked off Naselle 4-1 last week, improving to 4-0 on what has been a sensational start to the season.

The Titans dispatched their first three opponents, including Lake Quinault and Chief Leschi by a combined 55-1 margin before overcoming the defending 1B state champion Comets 4-1 last Saturday in Naselle. The Titans pitching staff limited Naselle to only two hits while striking out eight batters among three pitchers.

Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball

The Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball team notched two more wins last week, climbing to 6-0-1 on the season.

After a season-opening tie with Elma, the Titans have won six straight games, including their latest wins over Rochester and Chief Leschi, outscoring their opponents by a 72-12 margin overall.

Sophomore center fielder Lauren Matlock has led the way offensively, including a team-high three home runs and four triples with a .684 batting average through six games.

Up next: The Titans will next travel to take on Forks on Tuesday, March 26.

Naselle baseball

After opening the season with an impressive 4-1 win over Mount Vernon Christian, the Comets (3-1) followed up with decisive victories over Wahkiakum and Oakville, where they outscored both teams by a combined 25-2 margin, before falling to Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 4-1 last Saturday.

In the win against Wahkiakum, Naselle was led offensively by sophomore Kingston Quasnik, who accounted for two of the team’s eight hits, including a game-high three RBIs. In the following game against Oakville, junior leadoff hitter Jack Strange smacked a game-high three hits and pitched three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to lead the Comets.

The Naselle JV team (1-0) won their first game last week, beating the Pe Ell/Willapa Valley JV team 8-4.

Up next: Naselle (3-1) will host Ocosta on Thursday, March 28, followed by an away game at Toutle Lake on Friday, March 29.

Ilwaco baseballAfter ripping through their first two opponents by a 46-2 margin, the Fishermen (3-0) had their non-league game against Warrenton postponed due to weather last Friday.

Ilwaco will face their stiffest test of the season later this week against Toutle Lake (3-0). The game will serve as an early-season barometer for both teams, each with 2B state title aspirations.

Up next: Ilwaco will travel take on Toutle Lake on Thursday, March 28, at Lower Columbia Community College.

Raymond/South Bend softballAfter two losses to open the season, the Raymond/South Bend softball team won their fifth straight game after beating Rainier 9-5 last Thursday, March 21, improving to 5-2 overall on the season.

Up next: Raymond/South Bend faced Adna on Tuesday, March 26, and travel to take on Naselle Thursday, March 28.

Naselle softball

The Naselle softball team (1-2) started the season by beating Wahkiakum 24-8 on Wednesday, March 15, in Naselle, then fell 10-0 to Raymond/South Bend on March 17. In the win against Wahkiakum, Naselle racked up 11 hits, led by senior Glady Wilson with three hits and four runs batted in.

Naselle was then shutout 16-0 by Montesano last week, dropping their overall season record to 1-2.

Up next: Naselle will next travel to take on Ocosta on Wednesday, March 27.

Ilwaco softballThe Ilwaco Lady Fishermen softball team (0-2) opened the season with narrow losses to Napavine and Raymond/South Bend, then had their third game postponed last week (against Warrenton) due to weather.

Up next: Ilwaco will host Hoquiam (0-1) on Tuesday, April 2.

Raymond/South Bend boys soccerThe Raymond/South Bend boys soccer team won their third straight game last week after rallying with three second-half goals to beat Forks 3-2 last Friday. After losing their opening match to Elma, the Ravens have now won three straight, including a 9-2 victory over Ilwaco and a 9-0 shutout against Tenino.

Up next: Raymond/South Bend will travel to take on Eatonville on Wednesday, March 27.

Ilwaco boys soccerThe Ilwaco boys soccer team slipped to 0-2 on the season after falling to Elma 14-0 last Wednesday. The Eagles (4-1), who compete in the bigger 1A Evergreen League, flogged the Fishermen for seven first-half goals in a relentless rain.

The shutout tied the largest loss in school history for Ilwaco boys soccer, matching a 14-0 loss to Forks last season.
