Letter: Time for sheriff’s office to grow up

The Pacific County Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing hatred toward my husband and the Chinook Observer has really gotten out of hand. Sheriff Daniel Garcia and Public Information Officer Michael Parker are acting like two high school drama queens. It is amazing how many people have fallen for their Facebook fake news charade.

I have sat back for the past year, biting my lip, trying to hold back my opinion and not get into the drama. The sheriff’s office should spend more time trying to combat crime in Pacific County rather than police a newspaper that they portray as liars.

I recently went through all my husband’s work for the past year and found that he has written around 135 articles that involved the sheriff’s office as an integral part. I counted around 21 that are bad press for that agency. This means that 114 articles portray the agency as doing its job positively to the county’s readers.

No one ever says a damn word when there is a story that is positive for the sheriff’s office. The minute it is controversial, the sheriff’s office and village people are out with their pitchforks and torches calling for my husband’s head and the newspapers’.

News flash, people: Every negative article that my husband has written about the sheriff’s office is backed by public records. The county has a department whose sole purpose is handling public records requests. I think most people need to understand what public records encompass and that everything law enforcement does that is recorded is able to be requested.

The sheriff’s office needs to grow up with the whole “if it doesn’t fit their narrative, it’s fake news and lies.” Then again, from what I’ve seen, the integrity of the office is long gone, just like the rest of the MAGA cult.
