After Joe Nisbett got three quick baskets to help Ilwaco to an 8-2 lead, Whiting caught fire. He knocked down a pair of threes, then stole an in-bounds pass and fed Parker Kaech for an 18-4 advantage.
Right afterward, Whiting broke away and scored on a Nisbett outlet pass. Despite his hot hand, the Trojans left Whiting open again on the next possession. He hesitated, as if waiting for a defender to close out so he could make a pass. But none did, so Whiting buried the shot for a 23-4 lead with 3:24 still remaining in the quarter, giving Whiting 11 points in about a three-minute span.
Bubba Douglas got a steal and score to end the first quarter, giving Ilwaco a 30-8 lead, and opened the second quarter with a rare three-pointer, giving him nine points already. Jaden Turner got going with seven points in the second quarter, then added nine more in the fourth for a 16-point night.
