ILWACO — Eight first-half goals put the Hoquiam Grizzlies on their way to an 11-0 win over Ilwaco at a swampy Peterson field Thursday, April 11.

The field was slippery in places from rains earlier in the day, but it didn’t slow the Grizzlies’ offense.

“They had a couple of strong forwards, and a really good midfielder,” Ilwaco coach Andrew Goodwin said. “They had a big edge in shots-on-goal, and if you get enough shots some of them are going to go in.”

After the dominant first half by Hoquiam, Goodwin switched two of his top athletes, Ethan Personius and Jaden Turner, from forward to midfield to shore up the defense. The game was much more back-and-forth after that, with both teams generating chances, though Hoquiam still won the half 3-0.
