Maybe reading any Bible isn’t so bad after all.

It seems that some people can promote the Bible or a biblical/American message without being attacked (or mocked) while others must be made to look like a fool. A recent letter to your paper labeled Donald J. Trump a “huckster” and the equivalent of “Elmer Gantry” for supporting a new Bible that includes the positive support of American morals (in the form of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance).
Throwing stones without a modicum of research usually doesn’t work very well. This is one of those times.
Here are some cases in point:
Trending
• Jimmy Carter is still selling “the NIV, Lessons from Life Bible” ($46.03 on Amazon)
• FDR gave away signed Bibles after he wrote a forward to the New Testament. (Were they paid for with taxpayer dollars during the Great Depression?)
• Thomas Jefferson wrote “The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth”
The letter included a snide reference to benefiting off of the second coming of Jesus Christ. You might recall that the Democrats and the news media didn’t need Jesus Christ:
• Politico, Dec. 11, 2007 — “Messianic rhetoric infuses Obama rallies”
• The Hill, Oct. 10, 2008 — “Barack the Messiah”
• The Washington Post, Jan 1, 2012 — “Can a Messiah win twice?”
• CNN, Dec. 2013, Barbara Walters — “We thought he was going to be the next Messiah”
A parting suggestion from Benjamin Franklin, 1743: “Don’t throw stones at your neighbors if your own windows are glass.”
