ILWACO — Playing without Parker Kaech, who had a sprained ankle, Ilwaco went on a 21-2 run spanning the whole second quarter and beat Willapa Valley 62-55 on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Valley (15-6 overall, 14-4 in league play) led 16-5 after a quarter. But Jaden Turner filled Kaech’s scoring void with 15 second-quarter points as the Fishermen took a 27-18 halftime lead.

Ilwaco (14-6, 12-6) had lost at Valley earlier in the year with Kaech playing.

“I wasn’t sure how it was going to be, with us being without Parker and them getting back a big guy they didn’t have when they beat us before,” Daniel Whiting said.

But Ilwaco was a different team at home all year, where they finished the year 9-1, including four wins over teams they lost to on the road.

Whiting took over in the second half with 20 of his 22 points, helping Ilwaco preserve the lead.

Turner finished with 21 points.
