Canada geese rest and forage in the wetlands during king tides days.

The November king tides were awesome! As predicted, the fields and wetlands flooded bringing in ducks, geese, and raptors. In addition, a great blue heron or two, and a few double-crested cormorants were observed.

My friends Sharon and Joe saw them all. To their surprise among the raptors was a barred owl. The high water certainly brought on a show. Sharon’s photos illustrate just how high the tide was during the days of the November king tides.

I can hardly wait to be in town for the king tides of December. Dec. 2-6 are the days that I will be on the look-out for one of the greatest shows on earth. I will be ready with my binoculars and camera in hand from dawn until dusk. I’ll spend some time observing our yard activities. It is usually one of the best seats in the house for bird activity as are the Oysterville fields.

Last year, the high tides at Tarlatt Slough off 95th were alive with ducks and geese, etc., as well during the November king tides.

So, get ready! The king tides of December are nearly upon us! Happy birding!
