Medical staff at Ocean Beach Hospital were allegedly assaulted by a patient.

ILWACO — The Long Beach Police Department arrested a woman on May 23 after she allegedly assaulted a doctor at the Ocean Beach Hospital. This is the second time the woman has reportedly assaulted staff at the facility in the past two years.

Holli N. Hickman, 39, was arrested after hospital personnel called 911 and reported that she was hitting, screaming and spitting. An officer was dispatched at 11:56 a.m. and they discovered Hickman had been successfully restrained once they arrived on the scene.

According to court records, Hickman checked herself into the hospital to obtain care and, while in the waiting room, became combative. The hospital had to initiate a “code gray” due to her hostile and disruptive behavior.

“[The alleged victim] attempted to verbally deescalate the suspect,” LBPD Chief Flint Wright stated in court records. “The suspect rushed towards the victim and stomped her feet and made a fist.”

“The [alleged] victim raised his open hands to protect himself, and the suspect struck him on the left wrist with a closed fist. The [alleged] victim stated this caused him pain up his arm to his elbow,” Wright added.

Another witness also spoke with police and stated that Hickman was “aggressive and hostile.” The witness added that they observed Hickman hit the doctor in the abdomen and arm and yell about being “manic.”

Hickman was arrested and subsequently booked into the Pacific County Jail for two counts of three-degree assault.

Hickman was convicted a year ago, on May 19, 2023, of third-degree assault and sentenced to three months in jail. During the case, she was deemed incompetent and underwent restoration services at Western State Hospital in Lakewood.
