LONG BEACH — A report of a burglary on the 6600 Block of 67th Place in Long Beach led to the arrest of a woman caught on surveillance camera at a residence on April 2. The Pacific County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident.
The reporting party apparently informed the responding deputy that his neighbor asked him to check on their residence. He also stated that his spouse had given a female who was “encountered in their driveway” a ride earlier in the day.
According to court documents, at first the female was only identified as “Jessie.” She was given a ride to the area of 241st and P Street in Ocean Park. The reporting party was reportedly shown a photo lineup of individuals and identified the woman who was identified as Jessica T. Callahan, 46.
“After ensuring the residence was clear of any other individuals, I conducted a check of the exterior of the residence to try and determine the point of entry,” Deputy Dustyn Akker states in court records.
“During this check, I observed handprints on multiple exterior windows of the house. I contacted Deputy [Alex] Bennett for assistance with fingerprint collection. Together, we processed the exterior windows and recovered a soda can,” Akker added.
Akker and Bennett found the soda can near additional garbage.
“[The homeowner] confirmed that the soda can and boxes had not been left there by any occupant of the residence,” Akker states. “[The homeowner] provided surveillance camera footage from the front porch/driveway.”
“Review of the footage provided by [the homeowner] showed a female suspect exiting the burglarized residence at 10:56 a.m. in possession of an electric scooter. The woman then left the scooter behind the house, out of view from the street, and departed the property on foot,” he added.
That is when the woman reportedly encountered the neighbor’s spouse and was given a ride.
“[The witness] described the clothing worn by the female as a blue Columbia puffy jacket and gray sweats,” Akker states. “She also mentioned that she was carrying a gray and black bag.”
Callahan was apprehended and arrested on April 22 and subsequently booked into the Pacific County Jail for residential burglary and second-degree theft.
She appeared in Pacific County Superior Court on April 23, and Judge Donald J. Richter set her bail at $15,000. She was scheduled to appear for an arraignment on April 25. As of April 25, she is also being held on several misdemeanor warrants.
