ILWACO — The Downtown Ilwaco Revitalization Commission is hosting an April 30 Jeopardy Night Event on May 1 at 6 p.m., hosted by the Ilwaco Cider Works,116 Spruce St E.
Willapa Players present ‘The Mousetrap’
SOUTH BEND — Join the Willapa Players for an evening of murder and a chance to guess ‘whodunit’ in their presentation of Agatha Christie’s classic play, “The Mousetrap.” Just as Monkswell Manor opens their doors as a boarding house, a woman is murdered in London and a blizzard is sweeping the country. By evening, all the strangers gathered at the manor are stranded by the storm. And what strange guests they are, too. Remaining performances are May 1, 2 at 7 p.m. with a matinee on May 4 at 2 p.m. at the Willapa Playhouse, 125 Spruce St., South Bend.
St. Mary’s holds bazaar and bake sale
SEAVIEW — St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4700 Pacific Way in Seaview, is holding a bazaar and bake sale, including burgers and hot dogs, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.
Loyalty Days events set for May 3 and 4
LONG BEACH and ILWACO — Annual Loyalty Day Weekend events are planned for Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4. On May 3, it’s opening day for Ilwaco Saturday Market, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by the Ilwaco Children’s Parade at noon, and the Blessing of the Fleet at 2:30 p.m. hosted by the Ilwaco Charter Association. In downtown Long Beach on Sunday, May 4, the 75th Annual Loyalty Days Parade — a beloved tradition on the Long Beach Peninsula — begins with a thrilling Coast Guard helicopter flyover at 1 p.m. See Coast Weekend.
Columbia River Quarantine Station open house
KNAPPTON — The Knappton Cove Heritage Center at the Historic Columbia River Quarantine Station will host an open house May 3. It will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a program at 2 p.m. Admission is free. The center is at 521 State Route 401, Naselle, three miles upriver from the Astoria Bridge. Exhibits focus on the impact of public health measures, drawing specifics from a 1912 bulletin discovered at the station. There will be a “pop-up” sale of vintage and one-of-a kind items, with proceeds going toward the museum. Complimentary Life Savers candy will be available, while supplies last.
‘Empowering Our Future’ planned May 7

Jazz Night Club at the Astoria Elks Lodge
ASTORIA — Members of Ilwaco High School Jazz Band will present their annual Jazz Night Club 7 p.m. May 10 at the Astoria Elks Lodge. Tickets are $10, available at the door. Graduating seniors will be celebrated for their contributions to the music program.
Registration underway for annual Hope Floats
LONG BEACH — Registration is underway for artists wishing to take part in the annual Hope Floats event that promotes mental health awareness and raises funds for the advocacy group Peace of Mind Pacific County. Artists should contact Nikki Fortuna at info@pompc.org for information and registration. Decorated floats will be displayed May 10 and 11 in downtown Long Beach with an online auction May 9-20.
22nd annual Long Beach Surf Perch Derby
LONG BEACH — The 22nd annual Long Beach Surf Perch Derby, sponsored by the Peninsula Lions Cub, will take place from the Bolstad Avenue Approach in Long Beach Saturday, May 10. Cash prizes will be awarded for top three individuals (winner $200) and teams (winner $300) and $50 for the heaviest fish. Registration is $40 on the day, $35 in advance, at SurfPerchDerby.net or email SurfPerchDerby@gmail.com. Registration runs 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Breakfast will be available for fishers. A hot-dog lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $10. The weigh-in will be 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the pavilion with awards announced.
Participants must have a Washington state fishing license.
Volunteer Fair at Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum
Some tables are still available to showcase an organization or event at a Volunteer Fair planned at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. It will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 31 at 115 Lake St. Groups may reserve a table by emailing ilwacomerchantsassociation@gmail.com or calling (360) 642-3446.
World’s Longest Beach Runs coming up
LONG BEACH — Two runs, a 5K and a 10K, are planned June 14 to raise funds through the Ilwaco Sports Boosters for Ilwaco schools’ cross country program. The runs will begin at the Bolstad Beach Approach in Long Beach 8:30 a.m. and conclude with awards at 11:30 a.m. at Veterans Field. Runners who register by May 16 are guaranteed a T-shirt.
