CHINOOK — How long does it take a few dozen excited kids to gather a field filled with hundreds of Easter eggs?
About two minutes.
An exuberant early-season Easter egg hunt unfolded Sunday, April 13, drawing dozens of local families to the green fields behind the historic Chinook School over the weekend, kicking off the spring season under sunny skies.
The festivities, presented by the Friends of the Chinook School, kicked off Saturday, April 12, with an indoor vendor market and continued Sunday, April 13, with an assortment of family fun including games and face painting, culminating with the egg hunt.
The egg hunt was divided into two groups, including kids age 6 and over and another separate group for those 5 and under.
The action was brisk for the elder group, with participants racing to collect eggs — sometimes two and three at a time — into an assortment of bags and baskets. Within two minutes, all of the eggs had been gathered and attention turned toward the younger participants, ages five and under. The younger group was more methodical in their collection, some getting assistance from mom and dad as they experienced the egg hunt for the first time.
