Ilwaco baseball; Ravens softball, soccer rise in state rankings

Ilwaco softball
The Ilwaco softball team split two non-league games last week, including a 9-2 loss to Astoria and 17-7 win over Naselle, on March 3, setting at 2-3-1 on the season.
“I played my younger players so they could get some time on the field, and some of my more experienced players had the opportunity to see different positions,” said head coach Barbara Patana following the 9-2 loss to Astoria.
“Sage Womack and Emma Frame both hit .500 on the day. Errors and strikeouts were our biggest issues, and will continue to be an area of focus for improvement.”
Emma Frame threw 74 pitches in four innings, with no earned runs, no walks and five strikeouts. October Graves threw 50 pitches in two innings with three strikeouts, one walk and one earned run.
“They both worked hard on the mound and I’m very proud of the effort they put in,” Patana said.
In the game against Naselle, Ilwaco scored five runs in the first inning followed by four more in the second, building a 9-0 lead before coasting to a 17-7 six-inning victory.
Lady Fishermen senior starting pitcher Megan Dille pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs with 13 strikeouts.
Ilwaco is currently #26 in the WIAA state softball rankings among 47 2B teams across the state.
Up next: Ilwaco (2-3-1) will next travel to take on Chief Leschi on April 13, followed by a home game against North Beach on April 22.
Naselle softball
The Naselle softball team lost two of three games in three days last week, including a 23-13 league win over Wahkiakum before losing to non-league games to Toutle Lake 7-2 and Ilwaco 17-7, bringing their record to 2-3 on the season overall.
In the game against Wahkiakum, Naselle racked up 18 runs, led by Chloe Bergeson (6) who drove in a team-high seven RBIs in the 23-13 win on April 1.
In the game against Toutle Lake on April 2, Naselle pounded out 12 hits and only allowed five, however the Comets committed three errors and allowed three runs in the sixth inning, allowing the Ducks to prevail 7-2.
In the game against Ilwaco on April 3, Naselle fell into a 9-0 hole they could never climb out of. The Comets pounded out 11 hits, including a team-high three from Emma Kragerud, who jacked a double and a home run, finishing with six RBIs.
Naselle is currently #16 in the WIAA state softball rankings among 28v1B teams across the state.
Up next: Naselle (1-1) will take on Toutle Lake on March 31, followed by a home game against Wahkiakum on April 1.
Raymond/South Bend Softball
The Raymond/South Bend softball team improved to 6-1 overall on the season after sweeping Ilwaco in a double header on April 1. The Ravens (5-1) edged the Lady Fishermen 7-4 in the first before winning the second game comfortably, 20-6.
With the wins, Raymond/South Bend rose to #7 in the WIAA state softball rankings among 47 2B teams across the state.
Up next: Raymond/South Bend (6-1) will next host Morton/White Pass on April 8, followed by an away game at Forks on April 22.
Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball
The Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball team played a trio of non-league games last week, winning two of them to climb to 5-2 overall on the season.
The Titans (5-2) outscored Kittitas 16-15 in a shootout on March 29, followed by a 12-1 win over Warden before falling to Adna 19-5 on March 31.
Pe Ell/Willapa Valley is currently #10 in the WIAA state softball rankings among 49 2B teams across the state.
Up next: Pe Ell/Willapa Valley (5-2) will travel to take on Ocosta on April 10, followed by a home game against Naselle on April 12.
Ilwaco baseball
The Ilwaco baseball team notched their fifth straight win, beating Naselle 5-1 in a non-league matchup on April 3, in Naselle.
The Fishermen (5-0) are currently 4-0 in league play and ranked #2 in the WIAA state baseball rankings among 47 2B teams in the state, among their highest ranking in school history.
Up next: Ilwaco (5-0) will next host Chief Leschi on April 15.
Naselle baseball
The Naselle baseball team lost two non-league games last week, including a 3-2 loss to Castle Rock and a 5-1 loss to Ilwaco, dropping the Comets to 2-2 overall on the season.
In the 3-2 loss to Castle Rock on April 1, the Comets were held to season-low one hit while suffering a season-high 12 strikeouts.
In the 5-1 loss to Ilwaco on April 3, the Comets could only muster two hits — both by Trajen Ford — spoiling a strong outing by Naselle senior pitcher William Anderson, who only allowed five hits and one run with nine strikeouts in the loss.
The Comets (2-2) are currently ranked #14 in the WIAA state baseball rankings among 39 1B teams in the state.
Up next: Naselle (2-2) will host Knappa on April 9, followed by an away game against Pe Ell/Willapa Valley on April 12.
Raymond/South Bend baseball
The Raymond/South Bend baseball team fell to 1-6 overall on the season after suffering three losses last week, including a doubleheader sweep by Ilwaco by a combined 36-1 margin and a 12-0 loss to Charles Wright.
Up next: Raymond/South Bend (1-6) hosts Morton/White Pass on April 11, followed by a home game against Forks on April 22.
Ilwaco soccer
The Ilwaco boys soccer team lost two games last week, including falling to Raymond/South Bend 14-1 and Tenino 4-0, dropping the Fishermen to 0-6 overall on the season.
Up next: Ilwaco (0-6) will travel to take on Montesano on April 8, followed by a home game against Chief Leschi on April 14.
Raymond/South Bend soccer
The Raymond/South Bend soccer team earned three impressive wins last week, including a 18-1 victory over Chief Leschi on March 31, followed by a 14-1 win over Ilwaco on April 1 and a 5-2 triumph over Rochester on April 3.
The Ravens (6-0-1), ranked #8 among 72 1A soccer teams across the state, remain undefeated on the season, with their lone tie coming against Elma.
Up next: Raymond/South Bend (6-0-1) will host Elma on April 8, followed by a game at Montesano on April 10.
