LONG BEACH — A Saturday demonstration in downtown Long Beach pushing back on policies of the new Trump administration started at the beach end of Boulevard Avenue and continued down Pacific Avenue.
It was the largest such event in decades in south Pacific County. It was mirrored by a march in Raymond.
The south county crowd marched along five blocks downtown and walked three or four across. There were young and old, newcomers and longtime residents, displaying an impressive variety of handmade signs in support of democracy.
Crowd sizes are difficult to estimate, but participants said the total was between 400 and 750.
The demonstration was part of nationwide protests centering an array of issues. These included Elon Musk’s DOGE attacks on federal employees, reproductive rights, worries about Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, and lack of effective opposition to Trump policies by national Democrats.
