NASELLE — A deep and experienced Naselle baseball team has the right ingredients for another run at state glory.

Returning to the Comets’ roster this season are eight starters, including former Coastal League MVP Jacob Lindstrom and all-league selections in Jack Strange, William Anderson, Leith Chadwick, Logan Quashnick and Trajen Ford.

Simply put, Naselle is stacked.

The Comets only lost one player to graduation (pitcher/third baseman Dean Helvey) from their squad that went 15-6 last season before bowing out in the state tournament.

Over the past three seasons, Naselle has compiled an overall record of 46-14, including back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2022, when the current senior class were freshmen.

“Experience,” said Naselle head coach Randy Lindstrom regarding the team’s strength this season, now entering his 10th season. “A lot of the guys have been to the postseason, so knowing what it takes to get there and compete should help.”

A senior-dominated Naselle pitching staff is extremely deep, featuring Strange, Ford, Chadwick, Anderson and Quashnick. But some underclassmen will get some innings as well.

“Eli Gardner came out and really impressed us,” Lindstrom said regarding the freshman. “We have a ton of arms.”

An experienced and seasoned Comet starting lineup will be bolstered by a promising group of underclassmen. Naselle has a remarkable 25 players on the roster overall this season.

“We have a big eighth grade group this year and some other underclassmen fighting for a spot,” Lindstrom said.

Naselle will look to defend their championship in an evolving 1B Coastal League.

“Our league is going to be tough this year,” Lindstrom said. “They split it into an upper and lower league. Cathlamet, Ocosta and Oakville are all going to be good.”

Lindstrom will be joined by assistant coaches Les Franz and Logan Scrabeck.
