State wrestling: Three Fishermen reach quarterfinals — Ilwaco squad competes with the state’s best

TACOMA — Three Ilwaco wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals of the WIAA 1B/2B state championships at the Tacoma Dome.
Unbeaten after Friday’s competition were senior team captain Wade Smith (150 pounds) and freshman Mark Ragan, who wrestles at 132. They each won two matches Friday.
Both had qualified for state by being named District champion.
So, too, had the third unbeaten Ilwaco wrestler, Bailey Womack.
The sophomore won her match at 135 pounds Friday and will continue to compete in Saturday’s finals.
Her 100-pound division teammate, Liylla Carlile, who lost her first match, will compete in the girls’ consolation bracket.
Boys squad qualifiers Blake Bell and Colten Vandermeulen (both 106 pounds) Claudio Mendez (132) and Marcus Lynch (215) all split their matches 1-1, and will compete in Saturday’s consolation bracket.
Junior Lupe Torres (120) and freshman Chris Arnett (157) concluded their 2025 seasons Friday.
