The Washington State University Extension station on Pioneer Road recorded 5.31 inches of precipitation during the month, while the Naselle Salmon Hatchery tallied 5.74 inches. There was no rainfall on 16 days in Long Beach and 18 days in Naselle.
Pacific County’s record wettest January was 29.85 inches in 1953. A more recent record was 29.2 inches in 2006, according to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. The record low was 0.81 inches in 1985. The 20th century January average was 13.44 inches.
This year’s wettest days in Long Beach were Jan. 31 with 1.26 inches and Jan. 4 with 2.23 inches. Naselle had 1.48 inches on Jan. 31 and 1.6 inches on Jan. 5.
