Year’s first clam digs scheduled

LONG BEACH and OCEAN PARK — Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife shellfish managers have given the go-ahead for 2025’s first clam digs.
The following digs during evening (p.m.) low tides will proceed as scheduled, since toxin results from the Washington Department of Health are well within safe limits.

The DOH requires test samples for marine toxins, and domoic acid levels must fall under the guideline level before a beach can open for digging. Domoic acid, a natural toxin produced by certain types of marine algae, can be harmful or fatal if consumed in sufficient quantities.
First History Forum for 2025 planned Jan. 2
OYSTERVILLE — The January History Forum will not be on the usual Wednesday. It will be held on Thursday, Jan. 2, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Oysterville School. This session will be all about historical artists. Aaron Webster will start us off with a talk about Joe Knowles. Then the discussion will be open to all to share their recollections of the many less famous artists who have lived and worked here, people like Charles Fitzpatrick, photographer; Helen Davis, composer; Elizabeth Lambert Woods, writer; among many others. As always, all are invited to join the discussion.
Auditions scheduled for ‘Disaster!’
ILWACO — Auditions are scheduled 6 p.m. Jan. 7 and 8 at the River City Playhouse, 127 Lake St. in Ilwaco, for the Peninsula Players’ spring musical “Disaster!” The musical comedy homage to 1970s’ disaster movies will be staged March 28 to April 13. Those auditioning should prepare a short song and be prepared to dance and read from a script. There are about 10 adult roles and two for children, plus an ensemble. Help is also needed with costumes, set building and props. A small pit band and accompanist must also be recruited; they will receive a small stipend. Reach out to Rebuilding Together
Rebuilding Together, the volunteer group featured in the Nov. 6 edition of the Chinook Observer, has announced details of where to send donations and how people needing help can get in touch. This office takes the information and forwards it to the Rebuilding Together Board of Directors for review.

AlAnon meetings on Peninsula and Zoom
AlAnon Family Groups are open to any adult. The only requirement for membership is that there is a concern about problem drinking by a relative or friend.
