Year’s final clam digs scheduled

LONG BEACH and OCEAN PARK — Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife shellfish managers have given the go-ahead for 2024’s year-end clam digs.

The following digs during evening (p.m.) low tides will proceed as scheduled, since toxin results from the Washington Department of Health are well within safe limits.

Dec 28, Saturday, 4:58 p.m.; 0.0 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis

Dec 29, Sunday, 5:36 p.m.; -0.4 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

Dec 30, Monday, 6:14 p.m.; -0.7 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

Dec 31, Tuesday, 6:51 p.m.; -1.0 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis

Jan 1, Wednesday, 7:29 p.m.; -1.0 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis

Jan 2, Thursday, 8:08 p.m.; -0.8 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

Jan 3, Friday, 8:48 p.m.; -0.3 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

The DOH requires test samples for marine toxins, and domoic acid levels must fall under the guideline level before a beach can open for digging. Domoic acid, a natural toxin produced by certain types of marine algae, can be harmful or fatal if consumed in sufficient quantities.

The Brownsmead Flats performing in Raymond

RAYMOND — Sunday Afternoon Live is pleased and proud to welcome The Brownsmead Flats for a return performance to the stage of the Raymond Theater on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. This will be a free concert, and donations will be gratefully accepted. When you see The Brownsmead Flats performing on stage, you may well conclude that they are living the dream, and you may even wish you could be right up there, a part of the band. The Brownsmead Flats have been together for over 40 years, having begun in the late 1970s at local coastal Oregon potlucks and school functions. Their long-time camaraderie and sense of fun draw in their audiences — sometimes quite literally, with audience sing-alongs and even group dances.

Auditions scheduled for ‘Disaster!’

ILWACO — Auditions are scheduled 6 p.m. Jan. 7 and 8 at the River City Playhouse, 127 Lake St. in Ilwaco, for the Peninsula Players’ spring musical “Disaster!” The musical comedy homage to 1970s’ disaster movies will be staged March 28 to April 13. Those auditioning should prepare a short song and be prepared to dance and read from a script. There are about 10 adult roles and two for children, plus an ensemble. Help is also needed with costumes, set building and props. A small pit band and accompanist must also be recruited; they will receive a small stipend.
