LONG BEACH and NASELLE — Between Dec. 1-16, the WSU weather station on Pioneer Road recorded a high temperature of 58 degrees on Dec. 6 and a low of 26 on Dec. 3. The average overnight low was 34.7 degrees and the average daytime high was 52.9.

There was little or no rainfall on nine of the 16 days. The rainiest day during the period was Dec. 7, with 1.49 inches. The 16-day average was 0.23 inches per day — dry for this time of year. Total rainfall for the first half of December was 3.42 inches. Since the start of this century, December as a whole has averaged 12.7 inches in Pacific County.

Another in a series of North Pacific cyclones brushed the Washington outer coast Dec. 13-14. Between midnight and 4 a.m. Dec. 14, the winds at 120 feet elevation at Cape Disappointment gusted to 62 mph with a steady speed to 50 mph, mostly out of due south.

The Naselle Salmon Hatchery recorded a high temperature of 54 degrees on Dec. 6, with most days topping out at 52 between Dec. 1-9. A low of 24 degrees was recorded Dec. 2-3. Lows were below freezing in Naselle on seven of the nine days. There was no rain in Naselle for the first five days of December. Totals of 0.91 and 0.92 inches were recorded on Dec. 6-7, and totals of 0.27 inches on Dec. 8-9.
