Letter: International Suicide Survivors Event filled with healing, love, hope

Published 6:13 am Thursday, December 5, 2024

I would like to express my deep appreciation to all of the brave men and women who participated in the first annual International Suicide Survivors Event.

The day included decorating empty chairs with mementos of those we lost to suicide, a keynote speaker from Portland, Marilyn Grover, LPC; poetry read by Robert Scherer; and music by the Oyster Crackers.

Festive tables were decorated with the suicide color of teal with bright white carnations.

A wonderful lunch of homemade soups was provided by The Roo, Drop Anchor, Sierra’s, V’s Coastal Deli and Tako Wok.

The program cover was designed and painted by Terri Charboneau, one of the participants.

Healing, love and hope were the key words of the day.

A special thank you to all who contributed, participated and volunteered their valuable time and energy.

Thank you to Peace of Mind Pacific County for sponsoring this event this year.

Next year’s International Suicide Survivors Day will be the Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 22,2025.
