Letter: OP Food Bank provided holiday meals to 300 families

Published 8:56 am Monday, December 2, 2024

The holiday season is special for every family. The Ocean Park Food Bank always purchases special items so our clients can have a special meal too. This year we purchased whole chickens, stuffing, cranberry sauce, instant potatoes and whole pies. We give these items out in the second half of the month. This year we had over 300 families come in. This was about 10% more than we had last year, which has been true throughout 2024.

We ran out of pies and chickens but still gave out a good meal to everyone. We spent over $10,000 in November on food purchases — but this was to take advantage of some great prices at our local grocery stores. We should be good to the end of the year.

We operate totally on local donations which have been generous throughout the year and many years before. The matching grant from the Corder Foundation every December allows us to continue to be a valuable resource for our clients. We thank all of our donors who support what we do.
