Raymond police apprehended a man for alleged stalking.

RAYMOND — Another incident of refusing to leave a woman alone in Raymond has landed a man behind bars for the second time in a year. He was convicted on April 19 of felony stalking and was sentenced to nine months in jail with credit for time served.

The man, identified as John F. N. Connery, 35, of Raymond, was caught on Nov. 26 within 1,000 feet of a woman that a court order barred him from being near. He was caught walking “laps” around a coffee shop where she is a barista.

According to court records, the Raymond Police Department Officer Ivy Stafford responded to a 911 call alleging a court order violation at the 7th Street Coffee Shop in Raymond.

“[The alleged victim] stated Connery was making her feel uncomfortable,” Stafford states in court records. [The alleged victim] said she had a no-contact order against Connery, and he isn’t supposed to come within 1,000 feet of her. [The alleged victim] said Connery knows she works there.”

“[The alleged victim] told me Connery had done the same thing about a week ago, but she did not call the incident. [The alleged victim] stated both times he would stop walking and look into the coffee shop,” Stafford added.

The alleged victim and a witness provided Stafford with statements and photos that showed Connery outside the coffee shop. Stafford located Connery at U.S. 101 and Commercial Street and spoke with him about the alleged violation.

“I told Connery I had gotten a report that he had violated his no-contact order,” Stafford states. “Connery advised he was unaware of there being a no-contact order. I asked John if he knew [the alleged victim] works at the coffee shop he had been walking by. Connery stated he didn’t ‘technically know’ she worked there.”

Connery reportedly added that he knew her car was parked outside the business. Stafford walked Connery to her patrol vehicle, pulled up the no-contact order, and found he had been served. It stated he could not “knowingly enter, remain, or come within 1,000 feet of the protected person’s residence, school or workplace.”

“I asked Connery to put down the cup he had in his hand and take out the cigarette he had in his mouth,” Stafford states in court records. “Connery asked ‘why’ and stated he didn’t want to be arrested. I told Connery to place the cup on my patrol car and put his hands behind his back. He complied.”

Connery was arrested and booked into the Pacific County Jail for felony stalking and violation of a no-contact order. He appeared in Pacific County Superior Court on Nov. 27, and Judge Donald J. Richter set his bail at $5,000. He is scheduled to appear for a formal arraignment on Dec. 6.
