Letter: Olsen owes citizens an apology

Lisa Olsen, Pacific County commissioner, needs to apologize to voters and a Pacific County Sheriff’s deputy for her actions.
As a resident and voter in Pacific County, I have been following the Chinook Observer’s reporting on Olsen for the past few weeks — from Commissioner Olsen’s unopposed re-election win to later the same evening her crashing her car and being arrested for DUI on Nov. 5.
A Wednesday, Nov. 20, front-page article written by Jeff Clemens gives a full account of Olsen’s arrest. This was a thorough summary on what took place and the agencies that responded, through the release of the crash report to the Observer.
But what speaks out loud and clear is Commissioner Olsen’s lack of respect for the citizens of Pacific County and those who voted for her, and most importantly the disrespect she showed to the Pacific County Deputy Sheriff’s Office at the site of the crash.
By not allowing a deputy who was first called to the scene to perform his duty, she instead refused to speak to him and was very uncooperative.
So much so, that a Washington State Patrol trooper had to be called in to do the field sobriety test, which resulted in the DUI arrest.
Olsen thought herself to be above the law.
It has been well over 17 days since this incident took place. Yet, no apology has come forthwith from the commissioner to the people of Pacific County nor to the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office.
Why?
Olsen’s malfeasant behavior needs to be brought into the light of day.
We the voters in Pacific County need to contact her office and ask her to step down until a judicial ruling on her arrest is made. Commissioners David Tobin and Jerry Doyle should temporarily appoint a replacement for Olsen until her case is concluded.
We, the citizens of Pacific County, deserve better.
