LONG BEACH — A resident reported seeing a cougar in the dunes in the vicinity of Chautauqua Lodge Nov. 13 and 14, along with possible scat (droppings), of which she posted photos on Facebook.

“With the amount of deer and raccoons on the peninsula, we are likely to have a cougar make its rounds and visit from time to time,” responded Capt. Dan Chadwick of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. “Nothing to be concerned about but good to report sightings to WDFW [at] 360-902-2936. I’m not sure if that is cougar scat or not. It could be.”

Washington state has a healthy population of cougars. For more information about them and advice for getting along, visit wdfw.wa.gov/species-habitats/species/puma-concolor.
