NASELLE — The Naselle football team rolled to their ninth straight win last Friday, crushing Oakville (5-3) 66-0 on homecoming and senior night in Naselle.
The Comets (9-0) scored on both their first offensive and defensive play, including a 55-yard touchdown run by senior running back Jack Strange (44) and a scoop-and-score fumble return by junior nose guard Carsen Bisbing (55) as Naselle erupted for a 13-0 first-quarter lead less than 30 seconds into the game.
The Naselle rout continued to unfold in the November rain as junior wide receiver Scott Henington (13), senior running back Caiden Burke (26) and junior quarterback Leith Chadwick (15) each added touchdowns as the Comets opened up a 41-0 first quarter lead, initiating a running clock before Naselle lineman William Anderson (57) was shifted to the backfield, where the 210-pound senior punctuated senior night by rumbling over a couple Oakville defenders for the final touchdown of the first half, extending the Comet lead to 54-0.
At halftime, Naselle senior Ava Meyers-Marshall was crowned homecoming queen alongside senior king Jacob Lindstrom.
On senior night, playing in the final regular-season home game, each of Naselle’s seniors made impactful plays, including Jack Strange, Logan Quashnick (10), Caiden Burke and William Anderson. Naselle senior star quarterback Jacob Lindstrom (5) has been sidelined for the season following a shoulder injury suffered in the second week.
Following the win, Naselle remained ranked fourth in the WIAA 1B state RPI rankings, presumably securing a first-round bye and second-round home game for the upcoming district playoffs.
Up next: Naselle will await the determination of their first district playoff opponent.
