Letter: Water Music Festival 2024: A huge hit

The Oct. 19 WMF is in the record books and it was a total sellout! Audience members were treated to the Dan Brubeck Quartet. Yes, Dan Brubeck is the son of the late, great Dave Brubeck. All in attendance enjoyed thrilling tunes from the iconic “Time Out” album, as well as other most enjoyable selections.
This superb concert was perfect in every way, due in large part to the assistance and support of so many individuals and organizations. First, a big shout-out to WMF attendees for supporting us! Hope to see you all at the Dec. 8 Christmas concert! Huge thanks to the WYSS Foundation for its ongoing support year after year. We also greatly appreciate grants from WESTAF, WSAC, NEA, City of Long Beach, and LTAC, as well as the efforts of Cloudbreak Collective in securing additional grants. Every member of the Water Music Society board stepped up to the plate and covered all necessary areas with enthusiasm and hard work — heartfelt thanks to: Susan Spence, Diana Thompson, Rita Nicely, Lee Preble, Nancy Allen, Diane Andrews, Rosemary Andrews, Teri Kovach, Allan Martin, Lyn Hogrefe and Jeff Hogrefe. Additional volunteers were much appreciated: Nansen Malin, Peggy and Eric Wachter, Susan Ford, Stu Andrews, Ken Gollings, Lori Geyer and Dan Geyer.
Not to be missed are Rachel Lake’s music students who provided lovely music during the social hour, passed out appetizers, oversaw parking, and cleaned up afterwards in record time. And thanks to Rachel Lake for guiding the students and pitching in herself!
To the Chinook Event Center, Mallory Cox and Ron Baldwin, our very warmest thanks for all of your help — we love the venue! Our artists were housed at Adrift Hospitality, thanks to the generosity of Tiffany Turner. We are also grateful for news coverage by the Chinook Observer, Coast Weekend, KMUN (Carol Newman) and Patrick Webb.
It takes a village to produce the annual WMF, and everyone involved did his or her part to the max to make this event the best ever! Thank you all so much!
Now it is on to our 2025 Water Music Festival planning — celebrating the Society’s 40th anniversary. Details of this celebration will soon be available on our website, Watermusicsociety.com.
