Letter: Re-electing Perez is the clear choice

Our community deserves the best and Marie Glusenkamp Perez is doing an exemplary job as our representative to Congress for the 3rd District. In the last four years, she has consistently demonstrated that she puts the needs of the people of Southwest Washington, and particularly the Long Beach Peninsula, before party line or corporate donors.

Her record is impressive. Her strategies to get to know her colleagues on “both sides of the aisle” are effective and have resulted in the sponsorship and passage of numerous bills in the House that are in our best interest. Marie is ranked as the most bipartisan member of Congress from Washington state and 12th in the nation.

She has introduced, sponsored, and cosponsored acts that include ending fentanyl trafficking with local task forces and increasing support and funding for local law enforcement. As a result, she is endorsed by the National Narcotics Officers Association, Major County Sheriffs of America, and the Washington State Narcotics Investigators Association.

She is also instrumental in finding ways to alleviate the shortage of First Responders in our rural areas, increase veterans’ access to medical specialists, and has brought back millions of dollars to individuals and services in Southwest Washington. She toured bridges in the district with the Secretary of the Department of Transportation to address the need for improvements in safety and commerce. She is working to make childcare in the rural areas more affordable and accessible. She has addressed issues related to forests, timber, and reducing wildfire risks.

When Congress is not in session, Marie has held in-person meetings, round tables, and forums with constituents, stakeholders, and community leaders to hear the voices of our district. She has met with cranberry farmers, fishermen, crabbers, veterans, tribal members, and small businesses to represent us and has held local mobile office hours to resolve constituents’ issues with the IRS, Veterans Affairs, and Social Security agencies.

We should receive our ballots the week of Oct. 16. When you vote, please make the best choice by reelecting Marie Gluesenkamp Perez to Congress.
