Letter: Let’s become wonderful people again

It is time to make up our minds on the future of our country. In terms of the economy, we are well ahead of all modern countries, thanks to Biden’s handling of covid-19, the supply chain, and so on. Inflation has subsided, and unemployment is still way down.

For future predictions I will defer to those smarter than me. Sixteen Nobel prize-winning economists signed a letter warning that the U.S. and world economy will suffer if Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wins the election in November. “While each of us has different views on the particulars of various economic policies, we all agree that Harris’s economic agenda is vastly superior to Donald Trump,” the economists state in their letter.

Trump would be disastrous when it comes to supporting democracy, and believing in the sanctity of sovereign countries. As a kid in Denmark, I remember hoping the USA would help Hungary when they revolted against the USSR. They finally got their freedom when the Soviet Union collapsed. With Victor Orban (Trump’s friend), they are close to being sucked back by Putin. Ukraine finally won their democracy, which Putin is sucking out. Trump would willingly give Putin what he wants.

I am an immigrant, and I would like orderly immigration. We were close (again) to bipartisan immigration reform, a very good first step. The last comprehensive immigration reform was enacted almost four decades ago, during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Trump killed the new bill, for selfish purposes, so he could run on building the wall (which Mexico wouldn’t pay for). Harris has promised to re-introduce that immigration law.

It’s time to bring back kindness, happiness and gratefulness. We have a wonderful country. Let’s become wonderful people again.
