Letter: Vote for Andi Day for state Senate

I am writing in support of electing Andi Day for state senator in the upcoming election.

Our current senator, Jeff Wilson, has caused our state embarrassment by foolishly trying to keep his gun with him as he entered China. This seemed to be just a silly mistake but when you consider the nationwide, indeed worldwide negative coverage our state received as a result of his silly mistake, it is no laughing matter.

Under Mr. Wilson’s watch our county has received a decreasing portion of an otherwise increasing state budget. Whether you like it or not, our legislature is dominated by representatives of the Democratic Party, and this fact requires that any senator who seeks funding for the needs of the people in Pacific County must be someone who can work well with others to accomplish the common good.

The recent death of former governor Dan Evans reminds us of a man who was an effective republican leader who worked well with others and put getting the job done above petty party shenanigans.

One of Andi Day’s greatest strengths is her long track record working successfully with a variety of stakeholders, people with divergent interests and opinions by listening to them and then taking action.

If you think a subject like fires in electric car motors is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed in Pacific County, then Mr. Wilson should get your vote. But if you think Pacific County needs state help to address pressing problems of transportation, infrastructure repair and improvements and money to fund community programs for mental health treatment and small business assistance, then you should vote for Andi Day.
