2B volleyball: Ravens swoop Lady Fishermen

ILWACO — The Ilwaco and Raymond/South Bend volleyball teams met for a Pacific League showdown last week, with Ravens sweeping the host Lady Fishermen in straight sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-19).

Baugher, Koski, Enlow lead Ravens over Lady FishermenIn the first set, both teams traded opening points (4-4) before the Ravens reeled off a 15-4 spurt, taking a 19-9 lead before Ilwaco senior DS Keowa Rodriguez Iyall (5) scored to stop the spree. Aces from Ilwaco sophomore OH Bailey Womack (6) and junior LB Emily Morris (2) cut the RSB lead to single digits, but the Ravens prevailed in the first set 25-17.

In the second set, back-to-back aces from Ilwaco sophomore Angel Salas (15) gave the Lady Fishermen a brief early lead (9-6) before Raven junior MB Kassie Koski (15) and senior OH Macey Enlow (7) began to unleash a barrage of spikes. Iyall again racked up the digs, helping keep the Lady Fishermen stay afloat as RSB eventually retook the lead (11-10). Womack and sophomore Emma Smith (7) served up back-to-back aces to draw the Lady Fishermen within striking distance late, but the Ravens prevailed 25-16 and went on to win the third and final set.

With the loss, Ilwaco (1-7) slips to 48th in the WIAA’s 55-team 2B RPI rankings, while Raymond/South Bend (4-4) climbs to 29th.

Ilwaco will travel to take on Taholah (8-2) on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Raymond/South Bend will host Chief Leschi (2-5) on Thursday, Oct. 17.
