CHINOOK — Friends of Chinook School will continue “Celebrating a Century” with another fun-filled event. Friends, family, neighbors and visitors throughout Pacific County and the Long Beach Peninsula are invited to celebrate the bounty of the season and support a sustainable future for an important historic site this Saturday, Oct. 12, starting at 3 p.m. at the historic Chinook School.

Admission to the event is free. Tickets for drink, food and silent auction items are $3 each and a $45 bundle includes 15 tickets and a commemorative glass beer mug for the first 100 entrants. For more information visit ChinookSchool.com, email info@chinookschool.com, or call 360-244-3627. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The 18th year of this Chinook community tradition is extra special this year as the Historic Chinook School, built in 1924, marks its 100th anniversary. All are invited and “Willkommen” to the festive Beerhall-themed fundraiser taking place in the Event Center.

New this year, the hosts are expanding the hours and the selection of local beverages by partnering with Buoy Beer Co., Fort George Brewery, Ilwaco Cider Company, North Jetty Brewing, and WooHoo Winery.

Local award-winning Chef Indus Johnston will be preparing a variety of a la carte plates featuring traditional German favorites and yummy desserts.

There will be silent auction items from 3-9 p.m. and a live auction starting around 7 p.m., with “buy it now” options. Auction proceeds benefit the continued maintenance and operation of the 100-year-old school and gym, which has been lovingly restored and repurposed to serve as a Community Building and Event Center.

Stand out auction items include a bear wood carving by Blaine, fabulous hotel stays, a tug boat tour, original art by Chinook School Alumni artists Anna Lee Larimore and Dan Whealdon, and a brand new chop saw. There will also be a 50/50 raffle during the evening as a special fundraiser for the continued restoration and installation of a safety fence for the youth sports field.

All attendees are encouraged to wear Oktoberfest outfits and come prepared to “Chicken Dance” and “Roll Out the Barrel” as there will be DJ music and dancing from 6 p.m. on. There will be a supervised Kids’ Activity room (tots and up) available on a donation basis from 6-9 p.m.

The Chinook School Market featuring local artists and makers will take place in the Community Center building from 3-7 p.m.
