Letter: ‘I’m voting for Debbie Oakes’

As a resident of the Long Beach Peninsula for over four decades, I have seen many changes as our community has continued to grow and develop new challenges. Our elected officials are more important than ever as we put our trust in them to make the most responsible and researched decisions that will effect us immediately and in the years to come.

As an owner of The Ark Restaurant and Nanci and Jimella’s Cafe, I had many positive experiences with Debbie Oakes as a customer, friend and elected official. Her love of this community and her commitment to family and friends shows a strong allegience to what we preserve and protect in our lives here.

Her past record with PUD the last 6 years is nothing short of impressive. She has been supportive of minimal increase of rates, involved in low income programs such as LIHEAP and Warm Hearts and just finished the clean energy credit that benefited thousands on our peninsula and energy rebates and conservation efforts.

She attends all meetings and seminars and conferences that pertain to energy and telecom (broadband) in particular. Her attendance is flawless with twice a month Tuesday board meetings that are open to the public and invite local questions on policy updates and development.

Debbie is enthusiastic and postive and a true team player. She truly wants to understand and solve issues and actively listens to all points of view. That is essential for an elected official.

She has my respect and my vote.
