PENINSULA — On Oct. 5, the Peninsula Lions Club and the SW Pacific County Peninsula Rotary Club will be doing a collaborative food drive at Jack’s Country Store, Okie’s Thriftway Market, and Sid’s Market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On the day of the event, a Rotarian and a Lion member will be stationed together at the store entrances. The service organization partners will be giving shoppers a list of the local food banks’ most-needed items and asking the shoppers to please purchase one of the items to donate. This partnership between the Rotary and Lions is in conjunction with the Celebrate Community Initiative.
Celebrate Community is an annual joint initiative from the service organizations Lions International, Rotary International, Optimist International, and Kiwanis International. The service project partnerships typically occur during the week of Sept. 11-17. However, due to conflicting projects for both clubs, the decision was made to schedule on Oct. 5.
“Come purchase a food item, help us support the food banks and celebrate our community,” the clubs urge.
