Museum grant supports Chinook exhibit in Astoria

“This is Our Place” (Ntsayka ili/I ukuk), a forthcoming new exhibition at the Columbia River Maritime Museum, features the photos of Amiran White, who documents the life and ceremonies of the Chinook Indian Nation.

ASTORIA — The Columbia River Maritime Museum recently received a $250,000 grant from the Roundhouse Foundation for Mariners Hall and Native American exhibits design and construction.

The grant will fully fund a new Indigenous exhibit, “This is Our Place” (Ntsayka ili/I ukuk), in the current building, and future exhibits in the upcoming Mariners Hall. The exhibit is a collaboration with the Chinook Indian Nation, featuring the photography of Amiran White, who has been documenting the Chinook Indian Nation for almost a decade, and is expected to open September.
