RAYMOND — Three people were injured in a head-on crash at milepost 70 on U.S. 101 at around 2:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Despite the severity of the crash, only minor injuries were initially reported.

The Raymond Fire Department and Pacific County Fire District No. 3 responded to the scene, along with the Washington State Patrol.

No deputy from the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office was working the north county region at the time.

The crash happened a few miles on the Grays Harbor side of the Pacific-Grays Harbor counties line.

According to radio traffic, responders discovered two mangled vehicles in the northbound lane of the roadway.

The Pacific County 911 Dispatch Center (PacCom) put out multiple tones for additional units because of the number of patients.

A unit from the South Bend Volunteer Fire Department responded to Raymond to cover that area while Raymond units handled the wreck.

According to radio traffic, the patients were transported to Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen because Willapa Harbor Hospital was on a “divert” — which has become a more common occurrence in recent few months.
