OYSTERVILLE — The ‘Original’ Oyster Crackers, a popular local folk trio composed of Rita Smith, Cryst’l Mack and Bette Lu Krause will take center stage Aug. 25 at the Historic Oysterville church for the next-to-last 2024 Vespers service. Among them, they play a variety of instruments and, as vocalists are delightfully innovative with or without instrumental accompaniment. Pastor Steve’s inspirational and often topical spiritual message follows the person-to-person passage of the collection baskets.

For regular attendees, one of the most interesting parts of the service is the passing of the collection baskets. “Even after almost fifty years of using the same method,” laughs veteran Vespers participant Sydney Stevens, “the ‘passing of the baskets’ remains one of the most intriguing moments of the day! You just have to experience it to see why!” All monies received go to the Oysterville Restoration Foundation for the continued maintenance and upkeep of the church.

The remaining 45 minutes (“Guaranteed!” say event organizers Bill and Sue Svensen) are devoted to the music of our featured musicians. The event is free and open to the public. All are invited to “come as you are” to enjoy this next-to-last 2024 Vespers Sunday of fellowship and music at the Oysterville Church.
