SOUTH BEND — The following case was the highlight of the Aug. 16 Pacific County Superior Court docket.

Jose A. Alvarez-Cabrera, 37 — The South Bend Police Department arrested him on April 19 after a woman came forward and alleged that he rubbed oil on her while she was asleep. He was initially charged with indecent liberties and two counts of voyeurism.

According to court records, Alvarez pleaded guilty in a plea agreement to one count of first-degree voyeurism. Other charges were dismissed. He faced a standard range of 0-90 days in jail and 12 months of community custody with an offender score of zero.

The Pacific County Prosecutor’s Office recommended that Alvarez be sentenced to credit for time served and be released pending a pre-sentencing investigation and 12 months of community custody.

Judge Donald J. Richter was absent this week, and the cases were presided over by Judge Pro-Tem Stephen Brown. He accepted the plea agreement, ordered Alvarez released, and scheduled his formal arraignment for Sept. 20.
