A Coast Guard air crew performed a rescue in the Pacific Ocean off Long Beach.

A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew from Astoria rescued a 17-year-old boy on a fishing boat suffering a medical emergency on Aug. 4.

The vessel was located offshore 60 miles west of Long Beach.

The aircrew received the report around 1 p.m. and subsequently arrived on scene. A video taken by the Coast Guard aircrew shows the patient being hoisted into the helicopter along with a family member.

“Can’t thank you guys enough,” the commander of the fishing boat can be heard saying in the video. “You guys take good care of yourselves, take good care of our patient for us.”

The 17-year-old was brought to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

“They had Life Flight in the helicopter, which obviously helped greatly,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Steve Strohmaier. “They were able to provide some other medical assistance during the transit.”
