LONG BEACH — Charges are currently pending against a woman who allegedly caused a scene at the Fireside Inn and assaulted an officer at 1:38 p.m. on Aug. 2. The incident began when the Long Beach Police Department responded to a citizen assist at the inn regarding a trespasser.

An officer contacted the woman, Aisha M. Howard, 28, who was found to have an active felony warrant for her arrest. She was allegedly asked to put down a bag and cooperate with the officer, but instead took off.

“There was traffic on Pacific Avenue, so I decided not to chase Howard on foot as she crossed the road,” Officer Miranda Estrada stated in court records. “I watched Howard as I requested additional units. Howard began to run west on 16th toward Ocean Beach Boulevard.”

“I followed her in my patrol vehicle. She went back onto Fireside Inn property before I lost sight of her,” Estrada added.

The Pacific County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist and located Howard in the grass on 14th St SW. She kept running and was apprehended by Detective Kevin Acdal and Deputy Dustin Akker, Estrada stated.

“Deputy Acdal states that Howard was not being very cooperative and was spitting on him and had tried to kick Deputy Akker,” Estrada said. “I drove onto the Discovery Trail to attempt to locate the deputies and Howard.”

“I was able to meet them as they were walking back from behind the Chautauqua Lodge on a trail that leads to the beach. I searched Howard and did not locate any weapon,” Estrada added.

Acdal reportedly requested a medic unit from Medix to respond to the scene to evaluate Howard, who had minor injuries. She was taken to the Ocean Beach Hospital for an evaluation and medical clearance to be booked into jail.

“Once we were at the hospital, Howard was uncooperative,” Estrada stated. “I had to assist her feet out of my vehicle and assisted her out of the vehicle. Deputy Acdal and I had to keep assisting Howard to walk into the hospital.”

Howard was subsequently transported to the jail and booked for felony counts of fugitive from justice, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal trespass, and third-degree assault. The Pacific County Prosecutor’s Office is currently reviewing the charges.

She is being held in lieu of a charges review hearing scheduled for Aug. 7.
