Late-night surf response off Bolstad

LONG BEACH — South Pacific County Technical Rescue, along with other responders from multiple emergency agencies, scrambled after a report of a missing swimmer off the Bolstad beach approach on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 11:30 p.m.

According to radio traffic, the U.S. Coast Guard launched a helicopter from Air Station Astoria. The search for the missing male lasted about an hour before he exited the water under his own power.

Multiple people reportedly went into the ocean to look for the individual.

He was taken by ambulance to Ocean Beach Hospital.

Details concerning the incident are scarce, including why anyone would venture into the unforgiving surf in total darkness.
