Animal Shelter Report: Once-shy Mochi has done a great turnaround

Do you remember in grade school when the kids were picking members for their sports’ teams it was always the shy ones that got picked last? Well, unfortunately, it is the same story for less outgoing dogs and cats in shelters. And sadly, the shy black pets have a double-whammy! Black dogs and cats are not adopted from shelters nearly as readily as their more colorful peers. When he first came to our shelter, Mocchi was a victim of this double stigma.

Mochi and his littermates were wild kittens, but thankfully the people who found them were very kind and generous, and paid to have the kittens spayed and neutered before bringing them to the shelter. The kittens had some socialization playing with the grandchildren in the home, but several of them, Mochi included, were still quite leery of people when he arrived at the shelter.

Over time, Mochi has lavished in the attention of the staff and volunteers, and has become much more outgoing. He loves to be loved! He has gotten very playful, and romps with the other young cats and kittens in the Playroom. He is also getting more handsome all the time, with his bright yellow eyes and shiny black “mini panther” coat. Mochi would probably be a good companion for another feline-friendly cat.

Do you have it in your heart to help Mochi “join the team” and find a loving home? He has worked so hard to overcome his shyness- being black is something he couldn’t do anything about. Please come and meet Mochi and give him a home with the “soft landing” he wants so badly!
