Grange ‘Quilts of Valor’ honor eight veterans

The Long Beach Grange No. 667 has started a program of creating quilts to honor vets.
Linda Dunn, one of the organizers, said the Grange has taken on the Quilts Of Valor project as one of its ongoing community efforts.
“If anyone would like to nominate a veteran for a quilt, please have them send an email to PeninsulaQOV @gmail.com with contact information,” said Dunn.
The veterans were honored at a rencent ceremony at the Grange Hall attended by guests including Sue Svendsen, mayor of Long Beach, Pacific County Sheriff Daniel Garcia, who is a U.S. Navy veteran, and Louise Buckles, paastor at Ocean Park Lutheran Church.
Veterans honored with this first batch of quilts were:
Edward Stoelzel of Long Beach, who was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Gulf War and served in the Merchant Marines;
Two Vietnam-era veterans were honored. Larry Allen Zorza of Long Beach, was a U.S. Army corporal and
Roydale Chase of Ryderwood, Wash., was a U.S. Navy seaman. Chase was not able to attend and will receive his quilt later this month.
Three veterans who served stateside were David Kingsbury of Ocean Park, a senior airman in the U.S. Air Force, Paul Estrella of Ocean Park, a private first-class in the Army, and George Gana of Seaview, an Army private second-class.
Also honored were Edward Konchar of Ocean Park, an Army corporal who also served in the Army Reserves, and Paul Tincknell of Turner, Ore., who was an Army corporal and served in the Reserves. Both served overseas deployments.
