Fire erupts in abandoned vehicles near Willapa

WILLAPA — A large emergency response unfolded on June 2, at 1:40 p.m. in Raymond after a large fire was reported on Ward Creek Road outside Willapa.

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife and Raymond Police Department were the first units on scene and reported a bunch of abandoned vehicles engulfed in flames.
The plume of smoke from the fire was visible from several miles away.
Units from Pacific County Fire District No. 3, Raymond Fire Department, South Bend Volunteer Fire Department and Washington State Department of Natural Resources responded.

Firefighters were able to quickly kick the fire back from spreading into timber and denying the chance of a major wildfire. Fire conditions are steadily increasing with the dry, hot weather.
The Pacific County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what caused the fire. The property owner was not home when the fire erupted.
South Bend is also currently sending a brush truck to Yakima to help with a major wildfire in central Washington.
