SOUTH BEND — The following cases saw significant progress during the criminal docket of the Pacific County Superior Court on May 17, 2024:

Michelle A. Nelsen, 35 — Her case has been lingering in the court system for the past two years after she failed to appear on Nov. 18, 2022. On July 29, 2020, her ex-boyfriend reported to the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office that he allowed her to stay with him and that she had allegedly taken some of his checks and cashed at least one.

According to court records, a $2,500 warrant was issued for her arrest on Nov. 30, 2022, and she remained at large until early March of this year. The warrant reportedly caught up to her while she was held at the Yakima County Jail, where a bond was issued by A-Affordable Bail Bonds.

Nelsen failed to appear for subsequent hearings on March 28, April 5, May 3 and May 25. The court ordered the bond to be forfeited and handed over to the state. The court also reissued a warrant for $5,000 on April 23, 2024.

According to court records, the bond company filed a motion for a stay of the forfeiture, citing that Nelsen entered into outpatient substance use treatment on April 2, 2024. Nelsen also sent the court a letter apologizing for failing to appear because she was currently in treatment at a facility in Kennewick, Washington.

The court has taken no further action, and no future court hearings have been set.

Bianca M. Cordero, 25 — She failed to appear for her arraignment against the charge of delivery of a controlled substance. The court issued a $25,000 warrant for her arrest. She is accused of delivering fentanyl to a confidential informant in July 2022. She initially opted to flip and help the Pacific County Joint Drug Task Force before changing her mind a week later.

Marcy A. Scattergood, 49 — She entered a plea agreement for a First-Time Offender Waiver to settle her case. She was charged with felony violation of a protection order. She had an offender score of 0 and faced a standard range of 0-90 days in jail. The prosecutor’s office recommended she be sentenced to 28 days in jail with credit for time served and 12 months of community custody. Judge Donald J. Richter accepted the agreement and sentence recommendation.

Jason G. Pearson, 44 — He was accused of breaking into a man’s shed in Ilwaco on Nov. 22, 2023, and attempting to take a chainsaw. His case was resolved in the South County District Court and the felony charge was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.

May 24 hearings were routine only and most were set over until the return of Judge Donald J. Richter, who was absent from presiding over the docket. Court coverage will continue with May 31 proceedings.
